Welcome to Irish Derm Tutor
Irish Derm Tutor is a free educational resource offering practical, clinically focused dermatology teaching at different levels.
The Dermatology Topics section is aimed primarily at dermatology registrars, with clinically relevant teaching designed to help them feel well prepared for clinics and day-to-day practice. The GP Topics section is designed for NCHDs and GP trainees who are not specialising in dermatology. The content may also be useful for GPs and other healthcare professionals seeking clear, evidence-based guidance.
I am also branching out and working on a practical introduction to AI for healthcare professionals. Whether AI will ultimately prove to be a net positive or negative remains to be seen, but even in its current form I believe there are aspects of it that we can use to our advantage as doctors and educators. My aim is to explore these in a simple, accessible and practical way.
About Me
I'm Len Timoney, a Consultant Dermatologist at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
I completed my formal specialist dermatology training in Glasgow. I have also held dermatology posts in Ireland, at University College London Hospital, and at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth.
Priot to taking up my current role I completed a Senior Clinical Fellowship in Medical Dermatology and Medical Education at St John’s Institute of Dermatology in London. St John’s is an internationally recognised centre of clinical excellence that plays a leading role in dermatology training in the UK and worldwide.During the fell owship, I was part of the St John’s DermAcademy team, helping to organise and deliver postgraduate dermatology education for healthcare professionals.
I also hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Education from the University of Galway.
I believe medical education should be practical, affordable and accessible, and available at a time that suits the learner. Together with my commitment to improving dermatological care, this belief led me to create Irish Derm Tutor for healthcare professionals who want to strengthen their understanding of dermatology.
